Art Therapy

I am starting this blog for a number of reasons.

I miss the art therapy community that I used to be involved with when I lived in San Francisco. I want to reach out to other art therapists who are seeking community.

I am also working toward re-opening my community art center.

I used to have the Amajen Art Center in Andersonville in Chicago with my best friend, Jen. (Get it? AmyandJen - Amajen - Imagine. We're cheeseballs!!) We miss the Amajen Art Center and all of our customers! We opened in November 2002 after I had moved back to Chicago. We closed the end of May 2004, almost exactly when I met my husband. And not long after Jen moved in with hers. Priorities shifted. And we were always doing the Art Center in addition to full time jobs. !!!

I hope to re-open the art center as a non-profit business that is a place for accessible community art classes, social services and creative community building. I am taking the exam to get the Illinois license for a Professional Counselor - LCPC. (I hate exams and have imminent anxiety about this.) Wish me luck! I want to have a private practice as one part of my art center - but the focus will always be on ART therapy.
